Climbing up toward the West Maui Mountains the land was filled with row after row of coffee trees.
When the land where sugar cane was planted became coffee in 1988, four varieties were planted: Red Catuai, Yellow Caturra, Typica and Mokka.
There was originally 500 acres planted. Now Ka'anapali Coffee Farms consists of 180 acres of coffee trees revived by James (Kimo) Falconer.

This is the largest working coffee farm on Maui. The coffee is harvested annually in the fall. Machines are used to shake the ripe cherries off the trees leaving the others to ripen naturally.
It was an amazing day and look at the view of Molokai from above Kaanapali. The coffee is sold at the MauiGrown Company Store in Lahaina by the big smokestack from the original Pioneer Mill. http://mauigrowncoffee.com
